St. Monica Catholic Church – Dallas, Texas
From St. Monica: For more than sixty-five years our parish community has been a diverse community of people from many nations, united by their love of the Lord and their desire to put their love for him into practice by their service to others. We continue to look for new opportunities to grow in our knowledge of the faith, to deepen our relationship with God, and to use our talents and possessions in a way that builds up the kingdom of God. We especially seek to be a place of knowledge and inspiration to our children, and a place of loving care for those in need. We invite you to come join us!
The Project
St. Monica Catholic Church held a Stabat Mater Collaborative Performance featuring chorus members from 19+ churches and organizations throughout North Texas. This 70 minute performance included 12 movements conducted by St. Monica’s Director of Music, Conner McMains.
DC Media was commissioned to capture the event with a five person crew including a director, three person stationary camera crew and one b-roll specialist moving throughout the crowd. In-house audio was captured and provided by Full House Sound Productions.
THE Process
The collaborative orchestra filled the stage leading us to a wide angle shot that perfectly framed the entire orchestra, ornate decor and ceiling, conductor, and some of the attendees. Two other stationary cameras were positioned stage left and stage right with small pans throughout the performance to capture key moments in each movement.
Our b-roll specialist was there to capture highlights in each orchestra section that weren’t prominently seen in other angles. These sections included percussion, pipe organ, choir, soloist Avanti Dey, and up-close shots of the conductor.
THE Product
It was a true honor working with St. Monica Catholic Church and its Director of Music, Conner McMains.
